Sustainability is becoming more and more important in the healthcare sector. A new report from consulting company Owen Mumford Pharmaceutical Services offers three perspectives on how sustainability is being achieved in the medical device market.
Recyclability is key – and here PVC is mentioned as a material that can be recycled several times without losing its critical properties. Besides being recyclable, PVC is safe and extremely versatile, which has made the material the polymer of choice for disposable medical devices and a range of other healthcare applications.
The unique properties of the plastic and its wide use has led to the set up of recycling schemes for PVC-based medical devices in eight countries around the world – with more on the way: Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, South Africa, Thailand, Colombia, Guatemala and Canada.
