29/03/2013In an article by Plastics Today, Charles Kutchin, global industry director-healthcare at PolyOne was interviewed on PolyOne’ strategy to replace polycarbonate alloys with PVC in housings for medical devices.
The article explains how PVC’s properties makes it the material of choice for a number of medical applications including medical bags and tubing. Amongst these properties is PVC’s superior resistance, which is becoming more and more important in the context of the growing requirements for disinfection of medical equipment. Indeed, hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are a big concern as these have increased of approximately 36% in the past 20 years.
