The Covid19 pandemic has shown how essential PVC and other plastic-based medical devices and personal protection equipment are to healthcare. At the same time, the growing use of plastic in the health sector has led to growing amounts of hospital waste. Recycling is part of the solution – and here PVC’s unique recyclability makes it the ideal choice for the green transition that also hospitals must take part in.
That was the main message of PVCMed Alliance Project Manager Ole Grøndahl Hansen’s presentation on 25 August at a webinar arranged by the Southern African Vinyls Association (SAVA). Under the title “The critical use of PVC in hospitals & healthcare environments,” the webinar featured presentations on PVC’s history, properties and main uses, PVC/vinyl flooring in hospitals, the regulatory developments around plasticisers and how PVC medical devices are turned into school shoes for disadvantaged children.
