Polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC or vinyl, has a long history in healthcare. For more than six decades, PVC has been the material of choice for a wide range of disposable medical devices such as blood bags and medical tubing. But the polymer is not only essential to life-saving medical equipment: Mattress covers and flooring and wall covering are also made from PVC.
